Research

DanielaDr. Dimitrova's research focuses on Political Communication and Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). Professor Dimitrova's primary area of interest is cross-cultural media coverage of conflict events, such as wars and terrorist attacks, as well as the role of digital media in civic engagement, and refugee communication. Publications about international news framing of the 2003 Iraq War and media coverage of national elections in Bulgaria, Sweden and the United States have appeared in leading mass communication journals such as Communication Research and Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly. Published articles have also examined the use and abuse of online footnotes in academic journals. Since joining the Iowa State faculty, Dr. Dimitrova has published over 55 journal articles and book chapters and also co-authored a book. You can see a list of selected publications below. Since Fall 2020, Dr. Dimitrova serves as editor-in-chief of Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, the flagship journal of AEJMC
