Dr. Loreto R. Prieto is an ISU Morrill Professor in the Department of Psychology. The rank and title of Morrill Professor is bestowed by ISU on individuals who have achieved long-term and sustained excellence in teaching and learning, and who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments that have enhanced learning outcomes in undergraduate, graduate and/or Extension/outreach programs, which is reflected by a national or international reputation in the professor's discipline.
Dr. Prieto has been twice elected to Fellow status in the American Psychological Association through Division 2 (Teaching) and Division 17 (Counseling Psychology). Dr. Prieto has been teaching in higher education for over 25 years, instructing both undergraduate and graduate students in psychology.
His research specialization is in the area of the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) in psychology, as well as the general development of teaching assistants and faculty as college educators.
As well, Dr. Prieto has research interests in the area of men's issues and identity, including avocational activities.
Dr. Prieto has over 175 publications and scholarly presentations, including two books, The Handbook of Teaching Assistant Development (with Steven Meyers, Ph.D.) from New Forums Press, and Getting Culture: Incorporating Diversity into the Curriculum (with Regan Gurung, Ph.D.) from Stylus Publishing. He often serves as a consultant to academic units across the nation on issues of diversity and the strengthening the psychology curriculum.
