Field labels: template files

These template files describe below (cross-label, field-tags and shelling-label) serve as input for the Field Labels web tool available as a dropdown in the Tools menu at this site.

Each template is a tab-delimited text file. The templates include the field names and their order for transferring information onto the corresponding layouts to print as adhesive labels. Note that the web tools use tab-delimited text files. Therefore Word or Excel files won't work as input for the tool, although you can use those applications to create the information in tab-delimited format which must then be saved as a flat text file.

cross-label: Input is crossing information (see template) for a field nursery; ouput arranges that information in a pdf for printing labels. Prior to field pollinations, each label can be affixed to a wire tag and hung on the first plant at the front of the row. Paraphrases most field book information.

field-tags: Input is the count of bags (ears) to be harvested from each row, the row number or other row identifier, plus a few other fields (see template); ouput arranges that information in a pdf for printing labels. Used to label each onion bag a corresponding row is harvested into. Paraphrases select field book information.

shelling-label: Input is several fields from the field book; output produces a label for each seed packet to be shelled and inventoried. Produced after harvest, this label contains fields for information such as a unique identifier for each harvested ear i.e. seed packet, pedigree information and parent information.
