Teaching

Data Science

I am affiliated with the Data Science program at Iowa State University, where my teaching focuses on core courses in data science and statistical foundations. I regularly teach courses that support students in developing both theoretical understanding and practical skills for working with data.

Courses

  • DS 3030: Concepts and Applications of Machine Learning
  • DS 3010: Applied Data Modeling and Predictive Analysis
  • STAT 3470: Probability and Statistical Theory for Data Science
  • DS 2020: Data Acquisition and Exploratory Data Analysis

My teaching emphasizes the connection between theory and application. In a field that evolves quickly, I focus on helping students build strong fundamentals—probability, statistical reasoning, and computational thinking—that allow them to adapt as tools and methods change. I aim to create courses that balance conceptual understanding with hands-on experience, and that encourage students to think carefully about uncertainty, assumptions, and real-world data challenges.

I have been recognized for my teaching with the Iowa State University Award for Early Achievement in Teaching and the Cassling Family Faculty Award for Early Achievement in Teaching.
