Projects

Dr. Gallus has received over $10,000,000 in external funding as PI, co-PI, or funded senior personnel during his career at Iowa State.  His primary research focus has been on thunderstorm systems, particularly on improved prediction of their rainfall, with most of that funding coming from NSF.  However, he has also investigated improved prediction of other generally small-scale weather phenomena including tornadoes, winter weather, and winds at turbine height. In addition, he has been involved in projects focused on improved geoscience edcuation. He has received funding from other agencies including NOAA, NASA, DOE, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute.  Some of his more recent projects have extended into the impacts of global climate change, particularly on thunderstorm systems in Italy, heat waves with urban environments, and infrastructure in Alaska.
