Fertility and Agroecosystem Resource Management Lab
About the Roth FARM Lab
Welcome to the Fertility and Agroecosystem Resource Management (FARM) Lab in the Department of Agronomy at Iowa State University! Our research focuses on understanding agricultural nutrient dynamics in soils and plants, with the goal of improving nitrogen management and environmental sustainability. We study how nutrients move through agricultural systems, their interactions with soil, water, and crops, and the tools and strategies farmers can use to optimize nutrient use efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts.
Our interdisciplinary approach combines field experiments, laboratory analyses, and advanced statistical techniques to address real-world challenges in agriculture. From evaluating the effectiveness of nitrification inhibitors to exploring innovative nitrogen recommendation strategies, we strive to provide science-based insights that inform extension programming and improve agricultural practices.
Collaboration is central to our work. We engage with farmers, extension specialists, and industry professionals to ensure our research has practical applications and meets the needs of stakeholders. Our lab is also committed to training the next generation of agricultural scientists, offering opportunities for graduate students, postdocs, and undergraduates to develop their skills and contribute to impactful research.
Whether you're a fellow researcher, a student interested in joining our team, or a producer looking for science-backed information, we invite you to explore our work and connect with us!
