Michael Murphy

Hi there! I am a Ph.D. student in the Interdepartmental Genetics and Genomics program at Iowa State. My lab work currently involves developing, selecting, and screening oligonucleotides for their ability to serve as molecular recognition elements on sensors for real-time detection of various biothreat agents. I also work on projects related to the mathematical modeling of association/dissociation reactions between oligonucleotides (aptamers) and their protein targets, as well as the steric and electrokinetic consequences of these affinity interactions. In my free time, I enjoy playing and watching sports, cooking, and playing guitar.

Area of Expertise: Nucleic acid biochemistry
