Hye-Young Kim is Department Chair and Professor in Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management (AESHM). She earned a Ph.D. in Retail and Consumer Sciences from the University of Tennessee and an M.S. in Merchandising from the University of North Texas.

Her research focuses on consumer behavior, fashion marketing, and retail technology, with publications in leading journals such as Journal of Business Research, Psychology & Marketing, and Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services. She has received multiple Best Paper and Paper of Distinction awards from the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA), the American Collegiate Retailing Association (ACRA), Global Fashion Management Conference (GFMC), and Global Marketing Conference (GMC).

Kim’s scholarship has been supported by competitive grants, advancing community-based projects in rural retail revitalization. She currently serves as a Senior Editor for the Journal of Global Fashion Marketing. Previously, she served as Founding Director of the Center for Retail Design and Innovation (CRDI) at the University of Minnesota​​.
