Duy Doan

Position
  • Fourth Year Undergraduate in Mathematics
Duy Doan is a mathematics major at Iowa State University. Originally from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, he has taken a winding academic path, starting in chemistry at Shoreline Community College, transferring to Purdue University, and eventually finding his home in math at Iowa State University. He has brought his analytical eye and creative energy to two ISU research projects: Data Science for the Public Good (DSPG), where he tackled Iowa’s community challenges with data, and Parenting: It’s a Life (PIAL), where he helped inspire youth through educational outreach.

Duy joined the Zhang Group in 2025, drawn to its challenging and innovative research as well as its supportive environment, which fosters personal as well as professional growth.

Outside of academics, Duy is all about good coffee, great workouts, and even better food adventures. Fun fact: he once spent three months serving up steaming bowls of noodles at a street vendor in Vietnam, a job that taught him speed, precision, resilience, and the power of a friendly smile.
