Chen Yuan

Chen is originally from Suqian, Jiangsu Province, China. She earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, where she conducted research on electrocatalytic water splitting, energy storage technologies, and photocatalytic nitrogen fixation. From March 2023 to July 2025, she worked as a research assistant at Westlake University, focusing on the synthesis and characterization of cathode materials for sodium metal batteries, as well as investigating the failure mechanisms in lithium metal batteries. She joined the Zhang group in August 2025.

Outside the lab, she enjoys singing, dancing, reading, running, and spending time with cats and dogs. A fun fact about her: while preparing for the TOEFL exam, she had two cats named Chem (her daughter) and Atom (her son) in China. In the future, she hopes to adopt a cat in the United States and name it Ion.
