We have long worked on the synthesis of multinary pnictide, chalcogenide and, more recently, halide semiconductors containing unusual elements. From a fundamental perspective, we are interested in controlling and suppressing phase segregation, a ubiquitous problem in solid state chemistry and materials science. From a practical perspective, we are interested in finding biocompatible and non-critical substitutes for technologically-relevant materials (supported by National Science Foundation).
