Goals

The long term goals are as follows (5 year program):

To repatriate American Indians' germplasm collections
  • create molecular fingerprints for germplasm collections from southwest
  • find out whether diversity is being maintained in the maize germplasm
  • fingerprint any samples offered to the program by native tribes

Short term goals for the summer (1st year of program):
  • express our experiences with the program
  • develop long-term connections with each other
  • work to gain understanding of why and how germplasm is maintained
  • learn to grow and propagate plants (Maize, Echinacea, etc.)
  • develop markers for the maize Abnormal Chromosome 10 so that its impact on diversity of the Southwest Maize Collections held by the North Central Regional Plant Introduction Station can be evaluated
