Position
  • PhD Veterinary Pathologist Research Assistant
Hi, my name is Ning-Chieh Twu, you can call me “Jay”. My research interest includes the organoids model of domestic and wild animals, investigating the interaction between viral pathogens and host cells, and the potential of cross-species transmission, especially swine enteric coronavirus and influenza virus. I have experience working on respiratory (trachea and lung), intestinal (small and large intestines), and mammary gland organoids across several animal species, including swine, bat, bovine, goat, sheep, and alpaca. Our study used both 3D cultures in Matrigel and monolayer cultures on Transwell. Apart from organoid cultures, I have other skills in histology and imaging of organoids, such as confocal and light sheet microscopy.

Before my PhD program at ISU, I had 4+ years of experience as a veterinary pathologist in swine and poultry disease diagnosis, as well as companion animals’ tumor diagnosis (dog and cat). I joined the pathology lab in the third year of DVM and became passionate about disease diagnosis and infectious diseases.
