Hi, I'm Bala, research focuses on developing high-throughput diagnostic workflows for veterinary infectious diseases. My current research focuses on optimizing high-volume RT-qPCR testing for PRRS virus using an automated 384-well platform. It's exciting to work on systems where you can simply load the plates, and the automation takes care of the rest, freeing up time to focus on other work (or even enjoy a bit of fresh air!). I'm also exploring another advanced technology: the SmartChip Real-Time PCR system. Despite its complexity, it’s fascinating to work with a system that can perform nearly 5,000 PCR reactions on a chip just 4 × 4 cm in size.

Beyond diagnostics, I'm interested in developing animal organoid models. I’ve worked on propagating organoids from the uterus, lungs, intestine, and mammary glands across various animal species (uterine organoids are quite interesting, though).
Outside the lab, I love to explore, travel, and stay active in the Iowa State University community. I enjoy dancing and regularly participate in cultural events on campus. I’ve played volleyball in ISU intramurals and enjoy playing badminton in my free time. I’m also a food enthusiast and love trying recipes from around the world.
