We are designing a new paradigm of point-of-care diagnostics with optically-active nanostructures to detect biomarkers of preterm birth, cardiac arrest, neurological stress and others in serum and other biological fluids at clinically-relevant levels. We are combining microfluidic devices with magnetic beads and metal nanostructures designed in my lab for portable, reusable, accurate diagnostics enabled by Raman spectroscopy and fluorescence based detection. We have achieved extraordinary limit of detection of biomarkers with high specificity and sensitivity through this approach.
