Dr. Soma Banerjee
Position
- Scientist II
Dr. Soma Banerjee obtained her Ph.D. degree in Biophysics from Jadavpur University, India in 2014, where she worked on spectroscopy tools for the study of biomolecular recognition of medicinally important ligands. Subsequently, she joined Iowa State University in 2015 as a postdoctoral fellow, where she focused on development of aptamers as molecular recognition elements. During this time, she applied newly developed techniques to develop aptamers that can strongly and specifically recognize several viral proteins of interest. In 2017, she joined Aptalogic, Inc., a R&D biotechnology company, as research scientist where she continued her work on aptamers and applied the aptamers to develop biosensors. The success of the method/approach led to successful proposal in National Institute of Health to transition to the position of Principal Investigator. Dr. Banerjee’s current research interests range from development to application of aptamers for design and discovery of cost-effective biosensors.
