Dr. Khaled Kamal is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Kinesiology at Iowa State University and leads the Musculoskeletal Redox & Therapeutics Laboratory (Kamal’s Lab). He earned his Master’s and PhD in Madrid, Spain, followed by postdoctoral training in France, Germany, and Texas A&M University, specializing in musculoskeletal biology, oxidative stress, and spaceflight biology. His research focuses on understanding and mitigating chronic muscular diseases, including Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), aging sarcopenia, and spaceflight-induced musculoskeletal atrophy. Utilizing advanced methodologies such as multi-omics, gene therapy, and cellular biology, Dr. Kamal explores the roles of exosomes, oxidative stress, inflammation, and mechanotransduction. His innovative work bridges fundamental science and translational applications, fostering collaboration and mentorship to advance therapeutic solutions for musculoskeletal health in terrestrial and space environments.
