Dr. Jennifer Newman

Jennifer Newman is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. Her main research area is in creating and using discrete mathematics, statistics and machine learning tools to solve problems in steganography and steganalysis, forensic image analysis, validity of severe storm reports, image processing, texture analysis, and and other imaging topics. She has over 75 publications in mathematics, engineering, and computer vision. Her research, supported by NIST’s Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE), at ISU defines and creates a steganography database within a forensic framework, for use by digital imaging forensic communities for steganalysis and camera identification. Her team work with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is to develop a machine learning diagnostic tool to verify severe wind reports.
