Iowa State University SCN-Resistant Soybean Variety Trials

2012 report coverBackground:  There are hundreds of SCN-resistant soybean varieties available to Iowa soybean farmers. These varieties vary greatly in their agronomic productivity as well as their ability to control the soybean cyst nematode (SCN).  The largest project in the Tylka research laboratory annually evaluates SCN-resistant varieties for yield and effects on SCN population densities. This work is funded by the soybean checkoff through a grant from the Iowa Soybean Association.

Each year, the results of 9 field experiments located throughout Iowa are summarized in a report that is direct-mailed to Iowa and Illinois soybean farmers and is posted online. In addition to providing Iowa soybean farmers comprehensive information about the effectiveness of SCN-resistant soybean varieties, the results of this research is used to study the effects of increasing virulence of Iowa SCN populations on resistant soybean varieties.
