Hello everyone!
My name is Carter Nachreiner and I am currently a VM2 here at the College of Veterinary Medicine. I grew up in Minnesota before moving down to ISU where I completed my Bachelor’s in Animal Science with a minor in Microbiology. I then completed my Master’s in Biomedical Science here at CVM and during this time began working for USDA’s National Animal Disease Center. While working at USDA I was an animal caretaker for many species ranging from cattle, chicken, feral swine, bison, elk, and my favorite; white tail deer. For 3 summers I was on a small team in charge of hand raising fawns that would eventually go onto research projects typically involving BSL 3 containment work. I also had the opportunity to work in the Brucellosis/Tuberculosis Laboratory at USDA under Dr. Paola Boggiatto doing a vaccine efficacy project for Tuberculosis with infected calves. My duties included PBMC isolations and serum collection. My opportunities at USDA lead to my acceptance into Iowa State’s College of Veterinary Medicine program where I just completed my first year of course work and are one step closer to becoming a DVM!
