Originally born and raised in Kailua, Hawaii. During my undergraduate at UC Santa Cruz I studied chemistry and printmaking. During my PhD I worked on patterning and polarity establishment during Arabidopsis ovule development with Chuck (Charles) Gasser at UC Davis. I did two postdocs, one as an NIH fellow at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and another with Mark Estelle at UC San Diego. I joined the Genetics, Development and Cell Biology faculty at Iowa State as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in January 2015 and an Assistant Professor in January 2019. My hobbies include canning, gardening and henkeeping.
